Dear Parents & Students
Thank you for your care of the students this term! I truly appreciate the input you have into these students and allowing them to experience family life in New Zealand. We hear of some wonderful things that you do and places that you take them to - I appreciate that extra effort. They do become like our own family and sometimes we need to confront them about things and other times encourage them. I find that when you take time with rules, communication and treating them like your own, then there are fewer problems.
End of term
We ended Term 3 with a pizza lunch to celebrate coping with a hard and term, and a lot of rain! The students have kept a good attitude and some great academic results were achieved.
We also said goodbye to Henrik Stahmer who came to us from Germany for 1 term. He was involved with the Outdoor Education and tells us that even though it was a short time he had great experiences and it was well worth coming. All the best Henrik as you continue your life back home in Germany!
Ski Trip
A good group for our International students and they were lucky with the weather. Some were skiing or snowboarding for the first time and others were experienced.

Having a go at snowboarding Some of the wonderful homestay parents
Warmer Weather
Now that we are into Spring, you may need to remind the students that its time to put the heaters away. There will be no heaters at school this term. If they are cold they can always put on more clothes. It is not healthy either to be depending on heaters.
Internet
Some students have the internet in their rooms, which is okay so long as they are using it wisely. Exams are coming up and they need to be disciplined in their study. We dont want to see them coming to school tired because they were on the internet for too long and then they had to study. Study first!
Students staying over
Please make sure if your student says they are staying at another students homestay check up! They may not be. We want them to be safe and doing the right thing. Keep up the texting when they are out at night so you know when they are getting home.
Term 4
We hope for some warm days this term. Our cups in the common room have all gone, so just a reminder if they have their own cup in their lockers that they are responsible for washing and putting them away - or drink bottles are an even better idea. There is a nice water cooler for them in the common room.
Picnic & Study leave
The students finish for study leave on 13 Nov and on that day, we will have our farewell International Picnic at Spencer Park. You are very welcome to join us. We will have a BBQ, sports, presentations and photos. The students will get there at about 10.30am and return at 3pm.
For those students who have exams this time is for studying! Then they are free to return to their own countries. Please make sure you have sighted their departure tickets and sorted out transport to the airport. If they have excess luggage, they can be boxing that up now and sending it back. Please contact me if there are any problems there.
End of Year trips
This is for the students who wont be sitting exams. We have 14 of those students. There will be forms coming out for you to sign and details of the trips.
Just briefly they are: Nov 17 20 Hanmer Springs, Nov 24 26 Tramping Trip, Dec 1-3 Akaroa (Wainui camp).
Christmas
Students staying over Christmas homestays please include them in your Christmas celebration and also if they are travelling they will need to plan with me and have all the permission forms signed.
before school finishes on16 December.
