National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) began as an agricultural college 87 years ago. With this longstanding tradition, NCHU continues to take great pride in its consistent and continuous contributions to the Taiwanese society through the network of our alumni.NCHU manages 7 colleges, Biotechnology Center, Biotechnology Center, Nano-Science Center, Innovation Incubator, Technology Licensing Office, Center for Education Teacher, Extension Division for In-service and Continuing Education, four experimental forests and two experimental farms. It is the only state-run university in central Taiwan that has comprehensive offerings in both research and curriculum.
NCHU is the one and only university in central Taiwan to have been chosen by the Ministry of Education as a World-Class University in the International ‘Advancement to the Top’ Project. NCHU has been gathering many distinguished scholars from its seven colleges and investing efforts into three centers of research excellence including biotechnologies, nano biomimetic and

advanced industrial precision instrumentation technologies, and environmental protection and disaster-prevention technologies. Backed up with the Ministry of Education’s generous funding, NCHU is able to develop technological upgrades and recruit academic talent on a large scale. In doing so, NCHU strives to become a world-class university over the next five years.

NCHU’s achievements in research have been highly acclaimed. It ranks the fifth amongst all the Taiwanese universities in the number of ‘Distinguished Scholar Awards’ presented to its professors on behalf of the National Science Council. NCHU’s work in biotechnology has won as many as three Excellency Projects, surpassing all other universities in Taiwan. Additionally, NCHU remains the third in Taiwan with the largest number of citations for internationally published papers. NCHU’s published international papers in research fields of zoology, botany, engineering, material science and chemistry are all listed in the world’s Top 500 Best Universities. Particularly well known is our agricultural sciences research that ranks the 110th.  In addition to its many excellent programs and highly ranked research centers, NCHU is honored to have many distinguished scholars on campus. Among them, Professor Young, Chiu-Chung was honored as  a National Chair by the Ministry of Education for Taiwan in 2005. Professor Yeh, Shyi-Dong was also honored with a MOE Distinguished Academic Achievement Awards in 2005. Professor Shaw, Jei-Fu received the Biotechnology Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Oil Chemists’ Society in 2005 and was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS Fellow) in 2006. Professor Yen, Gow-Chin received a Fellow Award for the American Chemical Society, Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in 2005. At last but not the least, Professor Hsieh, Ying-Hen received the Canadian Studies Faculty Research Scholarship in 2005. All of these awards are testimonies to the fact that NCHU has been widely recognized both at home and on an international scale.

Incubation Center  at NCHU outperformed more than 70 other similar units nationwide, and has been selected for the last four consecutive years as the top incubation center by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and is also rated as one of the top 10 incubation centers in Asia. NCHU welcomes those in industry to set-up their research arms for their businesses at our Incubation Center. Not only will they be able to benefit from the outstanding research of our faculty members, but they will also have the opportunity to interact with our resourceful students and make full use of our modern facilities. We believe that such a scenario is a ‘win-win’ situation for industry, faculty and for the students at NCHU.

We also have plans to further strengthen our academic and industrial co-operation ties with other universities and research institutions in central Taiwan. In doing so, we hope to raise the profile of NCHU and take on more of a leadership role. This vision sees National Taiwan University in the north, NCHU in the center and National Chen-Kung University in the south as the three most prestigious universities in their respective regions in Taiwan.
